In early January, we revisited Barba Alexis in Renti. This was our 3rd visit after a while. I wrote before about our 1st visit here.
Nothing essential changed since the last visit. The same price, same menu, same staff. It was about 20 o'clock of Friday evening, but there was no other patron there until 21 and something.
To start, we ordered a dip called Tzevizle, which was a mixture of pepper, walnuts and onion (4 Euro). Quite hot. As vegetable we wanted horta (boiled green leaves), but they were out, so we got red beets (4 Euro). The bread (pita) was huge and crisp straight out of the oven (1 Euro per a head).
These are the pastourmadopita (pastourmali). The dough was pita/pizza dough and baked in oven instead of fried in oil. The filling was pastourmas, yellow cheese and sliced tomato. We prefer these baked pastourmadopita to fried ones. 6 Euro.
And the main was my favorite Kousbasi (7 Euro), which is a sort of pork souvlaki except that the meat was marinated in hot spices.
I like these souvlaki here because the meat has a right amount of fat. If you prefer lean souvlaki, it might not be to your liking.
At the end we were offered kazandipi as dessert (on the house).
About when we started the dessert, live music started. There were 3 players and 1 singer. And by then, there were about 3 other groups who seemed to be regulars.
We ordered also a bottle of beer and the total charge was 26 Euro. If you come in a large group, the cost per a head can be lower, because the portion size is rather large.
