Waffle @ Waffle House, Vouliagmeni

Went to Waffle House in Vouliagmeni this Sunday, as Bro-in-Law (the younger) and his wife took us their by their car. For Hubby and I who do not have car, it is tacky to go any farther than Voula.

We arrived at around 6 o'clock and the place was absolutely packed. As there isn't waiting queue for tables, we needed to watch and snatch any one being vacated.

In 10 min., we were seated, or rather more correctly, we seated.

The clientele is mainly 20-35 year old, fashionable, seemingly wealthy people (inevitably there are people who come here to be seen rich and beautiful). Our group of 8, dressed down, 35-45 year old, looked slightly odd.



Last time we were here, we had only coffee and an ice cream. This time we were determined to try waffle.

In Waffle House, you can order waffles either from already combined sets or from individual parts for you to combine. We did the latter. I ordered 1 waffle, 1 crema pasticeria ice cream, whipped cream (not fresh), and hot milk chocolate sauce (it is hot when it is poured, but gets solid when it comes onto ice cream).



The waffle here is very light and fluffy. Even I - I am not a big eater and little tolerance for anything very sweet - could have eaten 2 pieces. On the other hand, we did not like the ice cream, and at this second attempt, I am afraid we - Hubby and I - do not like the ice cream here (it is a matter of taste; the other people of the group like it).

The price is 5.5 euros; not bad for Attica coast standard. But, personally, I prefer waffles of Flocafé.

Note: The other people in our group have been to Waffle House in Naxos and they said that the waffle was thicker and better there.

Varkiza and Vouliagmeni

Having been away for some days and occupied with miscellaneous jobs, I did not have time to blog, but now I am back! :)

Yesterday, my bro-in-law took hubby and I to the beach. We were a group of 8 and went to somewhere below Varkiza for swimming. I remained out of water, as it was too sunny and I was sure to be burnt to death (I have sensitive skin and it has never been under the sun this summer). But Hubby enjoyed his first bath in this summer and it was excellent.

Afterward, we were taken to an Italian restaurant in Varkiza. It was called Vice Versa, if I remember well.

Hubby ate a Four Seasons pizza.



This wasn't bad, but home made pizza comes out better than this as I use better ingredients.

And I had tagliatelle with vegetable.



Tagliatelle were cooked well, but the combination of veggies and seasoning were uninspiring. Italians are genius in doing this kind of thing and it is where the Greeks fail. I ate half the plate and Hubby finished all. I stole two pieces of pizza from his plate.

With mineral water, it came to 25 euros (actually Hubby paid more as he had to pay also for his ever-needy other brother - they are 3 brothers). Not that the food was disgusting, but paying for sort of food that I can cook better is totally silly. But, you know, it wasn't me or Hubby who chose where to eat, sadly.


Hubby and I were already full, but the others were not satisfied and came to Waffle House in Vouliagmeni.

I tested pistachio ice cream.



One scoop costs 2 euros. It is a generous portion and very filling. But if my memory serves me well, I liked better pistachio ice cream of Pagotomania.

A friend of Bro-in-Law (the one who took us there) ordered something interesting and he let me take a photo of it.



This is a waffle with nutella, 4 scoops of ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top. He said it was excellent, but even he could not finish most of the waffle. I stole a mouthful, but it was well too sweet for me.

We went back around 8 and went streight to the bed, as we were very tired from the works of previous days.

New Japanese Restaurant in Vouliagmeni

Today I came back to Birmingham, UK. I will stay here until 20th when I am definitely moving to Greece.

As I wrote on the other day, I visited Furin Kazan Japanese restaurant in Syntagma area. To tell you the truth I was rather disappointed, probably because I had too high an expectation after having read so many good reviews.

At Athens Venizelos airport today, I picked up "2Board", the airport's official magazine. It is an excellent guide to Athens and to Greece and it is a very good read with beautiful pictures as well. I recommend you to pick up one if you happened to come to the airport.

In it I read that Nobu (probably the most renowned Japanese restaurant group) has opened a new restaurant in Athens!

Well, it is not exactly Nobu or not exactly in Athens, but nearly.

It is called Matsuhisa (Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's surname) and it is in Vouliagmeni (where Vouliagmeni Lake is), but it should surely be the best Japanese restaurant in Athens area now.

The price would be prohibitive, but, still, it is a great joy to have a decent Japanese restaurant in Athens area. I have to start saving to be able to try it!
